From 1 July 2005, immigration law relating to the Skilled Independent Regional (SIR) (Provisional)  visa will be amended to make 10 points available to applicants who obtain sponsorship from a state or territory government.

The change will affect all SIR visa applications made on or after 1 July 2005 and those SIR visa applications made prior to 1 July 2005 that have not yet been assessed.

• NOTE: this does NOT mean that SIR applicants will be able to claim 10 points to then be assessed under the skilled independent category.
